Apple Rolls

Do you like cinnamon rolls? This is an apple filled roll that's easy to make and doesn't require a lot of ingredients. It would be a perfect addition to a holiday breakfast. Thanks to my friend Judy for sharing.

Apple Rolls
Pastry
3 cups flour
1-1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. baking powder
3/4 cup shortening
3/4 cup cold water

Syrup and Filling
2 cups water
1-1/2 cups sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup margarine
6 medium apples, chopped or shredded
1 T. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon

Mix all pastry ingredients and then gather dough into a ball and flatten, wrap and put in refrigerator for at least 1 hour.  Mix water, white sugar (reserve 2 T.) and brown sugar in a 9x13 pan. Add margarine and place pan in oven at 450 degrees to melt.
Meanwhile on a floured surface with a floured rolling pin, roll dough to a 20x16 rectangle. Spread apples over dough then mix 2 T of sugar, flour and cinnamon and sprinkle over apples. Roll up and then cut into sections. Stir ingredients that melted well and add the slices of rolls face up and bake until golden brown.
