Hard Rock Candy

Now is the perfect time to do some holiday cooking. This is the time of year when cookies, candies and home made goodies are bountiful. I can remember my mother lining tins with foil and filling them with fudge, divinity and cookies. They make great gifts.
One of my friends was nice enough to share her mom's candy recipe. Hard Rock Candy is one of those traditional recipes passed down through the generations here in the Midwest. It is a simple process and always good. There's something to be said for the basics.

Hard Rock Candy
2 cups sugar
1 cup water
3/4 cup white corn syrup
3/4 tsp. flavoring (cinnamon, almond, or peppermint)

Boil about 20 minutes. (Cook until syrupier). Add 3/4 tsp. flavoring
and stir. Pour on buttered cookie sheet and dust with powdered sugar.
Let stand until hard, break by gently hitting with a butter knife.
