Our house Memorial Day |
The way I do your basic burger is really simple. Grab a wad of burger the size of a baseball and form it into a patty the size of your palm, about a 1/2 inch thick. Sprinkle with spices on both sides and cook.
Minneapolis may be famous for the Juicy Lucy - but I've got the Greasy Cheesy.
Mamma's Greasy Cheesies
1 lb. ground beef
ground black pepper
garlic powder
McCormick's Grill Mates Hamburger seasoning
cheese slices
Form ground beef into patties, at least 1/2 inch thick. Set on plate and sprinkle both sides with spices until well coated.
To fry - heat skillet to medium high heat. Place patties in skillet and cook about 5-7 minutes per side. Rotate patties in skillet for even browning. When slightly charred or browned, flip burger and cook 5 minutes more. Layer with sliced cheese and cover with lid. Turn heat off. Let set for 3-4 minutes while adding condiments to the bun and assembling plates.
To grill - Place patties over coals (or direct heat) and cook for 5-7 minutes, flip and rotate over grill's hot spots, cooking for 5 minutes more. Remove to indirect heat for 5 minutes, topping with cheese, if desired. Let set for 3-4 minutes and serve.
For a crowd - per 1 lb. ground beef, mix 1 T. hamburger seasoning, 1/2 tsp. Kosher salt, 1 tsp. garlic powder, 1 tsp. onion powder, and 1/4 tsp. ground black pepper. Mix spices into ground beef and let set for at least 30 minutes before cooking.
