The trick is to fry them. The recipe hinted at baking them, but gave NO instructions - winging it did not work. They needed a slather of butter, drizzle of oil or something, because the dusting of flour just had no where to go. I tried that way, too, with a spurt of buttered cooking spray. However the cheese oozed out and they were hollow and chewy. But if you fry them in oil for just a tad they are really good and very easy. A little marinara makes a nice dipping sauce.
Cheese sticks
Ingredients
12 pieces string cheese
12 egg roll wrappers
Oil for frying
Marinara or spaghetti sauce for dipping
Directions
Place a piece of string cheese near the bottom corner of one egg roll wrapper (keep remaining wrappers covered with a damp paper towel until ready to use). Fold bottom corner over cheese. Roll up halfway; fold sides toward center over cheese. Moisten remaining corner with water; roll up tightly to seal. Repeat with remaining wrappers and cheese.
Heat 1/2 inch of oil to 375°. Fry cheese sticks 60-90 seconds until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with Parmesan and salt. Serve with marinara sauce. Yield: 1 dozen.
