When my kids were little and we were watching movies once in a while, I'd make "puffed wheat." I know it sounds odd, but it's like a poor-man's popcorn. There's a little crunch, a little salt, and something you can easily and cheaply nibble on. My kids loved it. If you are a fan of kettle corn, use sugared puffed wheat for that sweet-salty mix.
Roasted Puffed Wheat
1 T. butter or margarine
2 cups puffed wheat cereal
1/4 t. salt
Over medium heat, melt butter in large skillet until hot and bubbly. Add puffed wheat and stir well to coat. Let cook, stirring often until lightly browned in spots, about two minutes. Sprinkle with salt and stir again to mix well. Remove from heat and pour into medium bowl. Serve warm if possible.
